Navigation system for recording and analysis of complex clinical data for personalized medicine
Life science researcher are facing a growing amount of research data. This is a challenge regarding the structure acquisition and storage, but also the analysis. Without adequate tools for data acquisition, handling and analysis the search for new patterns and correlations is proverbially a search for a needle in a haystack. This project aims to combine successful means of data visualization with a generic research platform for medical research. A integrative research platform will be created which covers the whole process of knowledge discovery from data modeling, over acquisition and handling to analysis.
In this project we aim to create an integrated research (data) infrastructure that actively guides the medical expert through this process and provides support in tasks that usually require profound IT knowledge. This guidance is a fundamental aspect of the system and is not only responsible for showing the user in which part of the knowledge discovery process she is currently working, but also for giving hints and revealing possible consequences of currently available options. For each part of the process different algorithms and methods are necessary to provide this guidance. In the phase of data modeling, e.g., it is necessary to analyze the data model, while in the phase of data exploration statistical and machine learning algorithms are used to grab the attention of the user to discovered correlations, patterns and outliers.
